Section 3: Sample Analysis
3.1 Functions of Reagent Disc
All the chemical reactions that take place in the skyla
TM
Clinical Chemistry Analyzer are completed inside a
circular and transparent plastic reagent
disc. A series of
automated liquid handling and reaction procedures on
the injected whole-
blood, plasma, or serum are
performed in the reagent disc, enabling accurate and
reproducible test results on the clinical chemistry
analyzer. Each reagent disc conta
ins one set of dry assay
reagents needed for the specified panel of test markers.
A number of clinical chemistry markers can be
simultaneously tested in a single analysis.
The functions of the reagent disc include:
Checking if the diluted sample is sufficient
distributed to all reaction cuvettes in the reagent disc.
Confirming that the amount of the injected
sufficient.
Providing various configurations of assay reagent
the disc.
The barcode ring on
the reagent disc contains the
serial number, batch number and valid date of the
reagent disc.
The barcode ring also protects the
optical surface of the reaction cuvettes from
prints and other debris that may interfere with
optical measurement. The clinical chemistry
can automatically check the above information
exclude expired reagent discs.
The sample anti-spilling pad prevents overflowing
the sample on
the surface of the reagent disc when in
excess, reducing the occurrence of
contamination
by the splashed sample during
operation.
