Exercise Mount/Abort
Click this button to begin exercising the mount. While the mount is slewing, the text changes to Abort. Click Abort
to end the exercise process.
Slew Axis Settings
These settings can be used to slew the RA or Dec axis using four different “slew units”.
Units
Enter the unit of measurement to slew the selected axis.
Encoder Tics: slew the specified number of motor-based encoder tics.
Degrees: slew the mount in angular degrees.
Arcminutes: slew the mount in arcminutes.
Arcseconds: slew the mount in arcseconds.
Slew
After entering the number of units to slew the mount in the adjacent text box, click the Slew button to start
slewing the mount.
By design, two different Slew buttons and two text boxes appear so that slews using two different units may be
performed for each axis.
Motor Index Angles
The MKS control system uses a motor index angle number stored in the control system’s firmware to initialize the
DC servo motors when the mount is turned on. The Motor Index Angle settings (Figure 71) allow the control
system to display, measure and record these values for the motors in your mount.
The process of measuring and retrieving your mount’s existing motor index angles is
required when installing a new motor, or a new control system on a Paramount, only.
Otherwise, do not attempt to reset the firmware’s motor index angles.
Remember to place the mechanical switches in both axes to the balance position before
measuring the motor index angles.
