Paramount Versa-Plate Knobs
There are four Versa-Plate knobs (up to six on a Paramount ME the optional Large Dovetail Accessory Rail)
are designed to securely captivate a male Losmandy-compatible dovetail. Rotating each knob clockwise
advances an angled brass plunger on the inside of the dovetail. The angled brass plunger wedges the male
dovetail to the opposite side of the female dovetail to prevent any slippage or rocking of the payload,
regardless of the mount’s orientation.
To mount an OTA with a male dovetail to the Versa-Plate:
1. With the counterweight shaft oriented vertically, lock the hour angle axis in place.
Rotate the hour angle axis two position switch to the balance
position (page 63) and pull and rotate the transport lock knob to
the Lock position (page 63).
Install the hour angle locking bolts and rotate the hour angle two
position switch to the balance position (page 75).
The female dovetail on the Paramount MYT and MX Series 6 Versa-Plate is wider than
the male dovetail that is attached to the telescope. This allows the telescope dovetail
to be set on one edge of the Versa-Plate dovetail and secured with the brass plungers
(without having to slide the dovetail on the telescope inside the length of the female
dovetail).
When attaching the telescope, make sure to rotate the brass plungers on the Versa-
Plate knobs are sufficiently tight so that the telescope is securely captivated before
letting go of the telescope. If at least two of the Versa-Plate plungers are not
sufficiently tight, the telescope can rotate and fall out!
2. After carefully reading the above warning, carefully lower the telescope’s dovetail into Versa-
Plate’s dovetail and tighten the knobs.
