Electrical System
Glow Controller
The glow controller is attached to a bracket under the
control console (Fig. 30).
NOTE: When troubleshooting the glow controller, refer
to electrical drawings in Chapter 9 -- Foldout Drawings.
Controller Operation
1. WhentheignitionswitchisinitiallyplacedintheRUN
position,theglowcontrollerenergizestheglowplugsfor
six(6)seconds.Theconsoleglowplugindicatorlightwill
also be illuminated for six (6) seconds.
2. WhentheignitionswitchisturnedtotheSTARTposi-
tion, the glow plugs will energize as long as the switch
is held in START. The console glow plug indicator light
will also be illuminated.
3. WhentheignitionswitchisreleasedfromtheSTART
totheRUNposition,theglowplugswillde--energizeand
the console glow plug indicator light will remain off.
Controller Checks
1. Make sure there is electrical power from the battery.
2. Disconnect the wire harness electrical connector
fromtheengine fuelstopsolenoidtopreventtheengine
from starting.
3. Place ignition switch in the RUN position. Verify the
following while in the RUN position:
A. Glow plug indicator light is illuminated.
B. Glow relay is energized.
C. Glow plugs are energized.
D. Glowplugindicatorlightgoes out and glow plugs
de--energize after approximately six (6) seconds.
4. Place ignition switch in the START position. Verify
the following while in the START position:
A. Glow plug indicator light is not illuminated.
B. Glow relay is energized.
C. Glow plugs are energized.
D. Electrical power exists at terminal 1 of the glow
controller.
NOTE: Ifthereisnoelectricalpoweratterminal1ofthe
glow controller, verify continuity of the circuitry from the
ignitionswitchtothecontrollerandperformStep4again
(see Chapter 9 -- Foldout Drawings).
5. IfanyoftheconditionsinStep3arenotmetorelectri-
calpowertoterminal1existsandanyoftheothercondi-
tions in Step 4 are not met:
A. Verifycontinuityofthecircuitryfromthebatteryto
the glow relay and glow plugs (see Chapter 9 --
Foldout Drawings).
B. Verifycontinuityofthecircuitryfromthebatteryto
ignition switch, glow controller, glow plug indicator
light,glowrelayandground(seeChapter9 --Foldout
Drawings).
C. Repair or replace components as necessary.
6. After testing is completed, connect wire harness
electrical connector to the fuel stop solenoid.
