RemovingtheFrontWheelMotor
CAUTION
Beforeopeningthehydraulicsystem,operateallthehydraulic
controlstoreleasesystempressureandavoidinjuryfromthe
pressurizedhydraulicuid;refertoReleasingPressurefromthe
HydraulicSystem(page4–6).
1.Parkthemachineonalevelsurface,lowerthecuttingdecks,shutoffthe
engine,settheparkingbrake,andremovethekeyfromthekeyswitch.
2.Blocktherearwheelswithchockstopreventthemachinefrommoving.
3.Loosen,butdonotremovethelocknut(item13inFigure91)thatsecures
thewheelhubtothewheelmotor.
4.ReadtheGeneralPrecautionsforRemovingandInstallingtheHydraulic
SystemComponents(page4–87).
IMPORTANT
Beforeliftingthemachinewithajack,reviewandfollowJacking
Instructions(page1–6).
5.Liftthemachinewithajacktoremovethefrontwheel,supportthemachine
withjackstands.
6.Removethefrontwheelfromthemachine;refertoRemovingtheWheel
(page6–6).
7.Removethebrakereturnspring(item16inFigure91)andclevispinthat
attachthebrakecabletothebrakeactuatorlever.Positionthebrakecable
awayfromtheactuatorlever.
8.Removethebrakedrum(item12inFigure91)fromthebrakeassembly.
9.Ensurethatthelocknut(item13inFigure91)onthewheelmotorshaftis
loosenedatleast2turns.
IMPORTANT
Donothitthewheelhub,wheel-hubpuller,orwheelmotorwitha
hammerwhileremovingorinstalling.Hammeringcandamagethe
wheelmotor.
10.Useahubpuller(refertoSpecialT ools(page4–31))toloosenthewheel
hubfromthewheelmotor.
11.Removethelocknutandwheelhubfromthemotorshaft.Discardthelocknut.
12.Locateandretrievethesquarekeyfromthewheelmotorshaft.
13.Cleanthehydraulictubeendsandttingsonthewheelmotortoprevent
contaminantsfromenteringintothehydraulicsystem.
14.Forassemblypurposes,labelallthehydraulicconnectionsatthewheel
motor.
15.Loosenandremovethehydraulictubesfromthettingsonthewheelmotor.
Allowthetubestodrainintoasuitablecontainer.
16.Installcleancapsorplugsonthehydraulictubesandttingstoprevent
systemcontamination.
