RemovingtheRearAxleMotorHousings
1.Parkthemachineonalevelsurface,lowerthecuttingdecks,shutoffthe
engine,settheparkingbrake,andremovethekeyfromthekeyswitch.
2.Blockthefrontwheelswithchockstopreventthemachinefrommoving.
3.Removetherearwheelassembly;refertoRemovingtheWheel(page6–6).
4.Removethecotterpinandslottedhexnutthatsecurethetierodend(item
22inFigure209)tothedraglink.Useaballjointremovaltool(picklefork)
andseparatethetierodendfromthedraglink.
5.Iftherightsidemotorhousingisbeingremoved,removethecotterpinand
slottedhexnutthatsecurethesteeringcylinderballjoint(item25inFigure
209)tothedraglink.Useaballjointremovaltool(picklefork)andseparate
thesteeringcylinderfromthedraglink.
6.Removethe4bolts(item14inFigure209)and4lockwashersthatsecure
thewheelmotortothemotorhousing.Slidethewheelmotorassembly
(withthewheelhubandhydraulichosesattached)fromthemotorhousing.
Positionthewheelmotorawayfromthehousing.
7.Supportthemotorhousingtopreventitfromfalling.
Note:Donotallowthewheelmotorassemblytohangfromthehydraulic
hoses.
8.Removetheange-headscrew(item2inFigure209),spindlecap,and
retainingringthatsecurethemotorhousingshaftintotheaxletube.Slidethe
motorhousingoutoftheaxletube.
9.Locateandretrievethethrustwasher(item7inFigure209)fromthemotor
housingshaft.
10.Ifnecessary,removethedraglinkfromthemotorhousing.
11.Cleanthemotorhousingshaft.Inspecttheshaftforwearandreplacethe
motorhousingiftheshaftiswornordamaged.
12.Cleantherearaxleboreandinspecttheangebushings(item5inFigure
209)intherearaxleforwearordamage.Ifthebushingsneedreplacement,
dothefollowingsteps:
Note:Donotdamagetheboreoftheaxletubeduringbushingremoval.
A.Useabushingremovaltooltoextractboththeangebushingsfromthe
axletube.
B.Cleantheinsideoftheaxletubetoremoveanydirtorunwantedmaterial.
C.Applygreasetotheinnerandoutersurfacesofnewangebushings.
D.Pressthenewangebushingsintothetopandbottomoftheaxletube
untilbushingangebottomsonthetube.
E.Afterbushinginstallation,ensurethatthemotorhousingshaftslides
easilyintothebushings.Ifthereisanybinding,locateandcorrectthe
sourceofbinding.
InstallingtheRearAxleMotorHousings
1.Ifremoved,securethedraglinktothemotorhousing.
2.Applyalightcoatingofgreasetothemotorhousingshaft.
3.Installthethrustwasher(item7inFigure209)ontothemotorhousingshaft
andslidetheshaftupthroughtheaxletube.
4.Holdthemotorhousinginplaceandinstalltheretainingring(item4inFigure
209)ontotheendofthespindleshaft.
5.Placethespindlecap(item3inFigure209)tothetopofthemotorhousing
shaftandsecurewiththeange-headscrew.
