Section 2 MZ Tow Tractor
B. CONTROLS AND INDICATORS
1. Multifunction Display
When the tractor is first turned on, the multi function display shows the accumulated operating
hours. The display then informs the operator as to the status of the battery State of Charge
(SOC) both by representative LED’s and by displaying a BDI (Battery Discharge Indicator)
percentage of available battery capacity when other pertinent information is not being
displayed in the information bar. The red warning LED on the wrench icon alerts the operator
to faults while fault codes are displayed in the information bar.
NOTE: The entire range of the battery percentage available (decreasing
from 100% to 0% as the vehicle is used) is indicative of the
recommended operating range of the battery. The gauge is calibrated to
show BDI 0% when the battery is actually at 20% of the battery’s
capacity because lead acid batteries can suffer long term capacity
decreases if they fall below 20% of their capacity. This way, an operator
can treat the “fuel gauge” in the MZ Electric Tow Tractor exactly the
same as a fuel gauge in a gas or diesel tractor without worrying about
damaging the battery.
CAUTION: THE BATTERY SHOULD BE RECHARGED BEFORE
THE INDICATOR SHOWS THE BATTERY IS “EMPTY” OR AT BDI
0%. IF THE TRACTOR IS USED UNTIL THE GAUGE REACHES
BDI 0%, THE TRACTOR MAY CONTINUE TO FUNCTION
NORMALLY WITH NO IMMEDIATE INDICATIONS OF A
PROBLEM FOR A SHORT PERIOD, BUT SHOULD BE DRIVEN
IMMEDIATELY TO A CHARGING STATION TO PREVENT
IRREVERSIBLE BATTERY DAMAGE.
NOTE: Operators should be aware that an electric tractor makes no
engine idle noise when the unit is sitting still. The unit may be drivable
when it appears to be turned off. Therefore the operator should learn to
watch the multifunction display for indications that the unit is on and
operable.
