(4) Make sure the charger is off. Attach charger connector to mating battery
connector on the vehicle.
(5) Select the equalize charging cycle and charge the battery.
(6) Allow the charger to complete the full cycle.
(7) Make sure charger is turned off; disconnect charger.
WARNING: NEVER TOP OFF CELLS WITH DISTILLED WATER
BEFORE FULLY CHARGING THE BATTERY.
(8) Top off cells with low fluid levels by adding distilled water to cover the top
plate in each cell.
(9) Test the electrolyte levels in each cell using a hydrometer to ensure that all
cells have acquired the same degree of charge.
(10) If electrolyte level does not meet the battery manufacturer's recommended
level, add electrolyte per the manufacturer's procedures, or contact your local
battery dealer.
B. STORAGE AND COLD WEATHER CONSIDERATIONS
1. In cold weather, 32 °F (0 °C) or below, battery performance is diminished. Battery capacity
lessens as temperature becomes colder. Charge the battery when the unit is not in use and
always charge the battery over night to prevent the internal temperature of the battery from
dropping too low. In extreme cold, an externally powered battery warming blanket may be
required.
2. The battery should be fully charged before storing the unit in cold weather and before storing
the unit for an extended period of time. During long term storage, the battery should be
removed from the unit and charged every 30 days.
