7.3 Appendix C Decontamination and Disposal
7.3.1 General Decontamination Considerations
Clean up all laboratory spills using approved laboratory biohazard spill protocols.
Because components of the Multi-Channel Online Monitor could be exposed to potentially infectious biological samples,
toxic chemicals or corrosive chemicals, perform appropriate decontamination procedures to ensure there is no risk of
contamination. Proper precautionary lab practices should be followed when handling biological hazards.
Suggested disinfecting solutions include:
70% Isopropanol Solution
70% Ethanol Solution
7.3.2 Decontamination of the Multi-Channel Online Monitor
Ensure that the Multi-Channel Online Monitor System has been turned off and that the electrical
supply is disconnected. Disconnect all communication cables from the Multi-Channel Online Monitor
System housing.
Biological hazards can be associated with the waste material of the experiments run on the Multi-
Channel Online Monitor. Inquire about appropriate collecting points and approved methods of
disposal in your country, state, or region.
1. Remove and discard all tubing.
2. Empty waste bottle and wash with disinfecting agent.
3. Remove sample monitor cup according to section 5.3.2.2 Monitor Sample Cup. Thoroughly clean items with
disinfecting agent, then rinse with DI or purified water. Allow to dry before using or shipping.
4. Wipe down the Multi-Channel Online Monitor housing and associated components with approved disinfecting
agent. Prevent disinfecting agent from contacting any electrical or communication connections.
5. Clean FISP sampling probes according to the FISP Sampling Probe User Guide. Remove membranes and discard
using approved laboratory biohazard protocols.
6. If the Multi-Channel Online Monitor or any of its components will be returned to the YSI Service Center, please
complete the Cleaning Certificate in Appendix D Warranty and Repair, and include with the shipped contents.
7.3.3 Disposal of the Multi-Channel Online Monitor
Observe all national, regional, and local regulations for waste disposal and management.
Always disinfect and decontaminate the components of the Multi-Channel Online Monitor
before disposal. Depending on the applications for use, components of the Multi-Channel
Online Monitor could have been in contact with biohazardous material. Treat biohazardous
