6.1 Troubleshooting Basics
The troubleshooting guide below provides a means for determining the cause of a Multi-Channel Online Monitor
System malfunction as well as the corrective measures that can be applied to remedy the problem. In order to
more accurately diagnose the cause, gather as much information as possible prior to commencing the
troubleshooting process.
Some recommendations for gathering this information include:
• Review any displayed error or warning messages. These messages will help indicate any problems and
identify causes.
• Review the Multi-Channel Online Monitor system status log, error message log and/or audit trail for
additional details. Refer to Section 4.8.1 Status Monitoring and 4.14.3 Alerts Display for viewing and
retrieving the data from these sources.
• Look and listen for physical problems such as fluid leaks, disconnected tubing, sample line air bubbles,
unusual noises, misplaced or loosely connected fluid detectors, etc.
If the malfunction cannot be resolved after using the troubleshooting guide, contact YSI Technical Support. When
corresponding please include the serial number of the instrument, a detailed description of the problem and any
error codes and/or messages.
6.2 Online Monitor Troubleshooting Guide
Unable to change options in software (grayed out)
Solution: Some items cannot be modified or used if your vessel is running. This is to prevent problems with the
run cycle. If you want to modify these options, select the vessel that is running and press the Stop
button. Once the vessel tab changes color from red to blue, the options can then be modified.
Timeout error occurs when trying to download the audit trail
Solution: If the audit file size is too large and exceeds 30 seconds to download, then a timeout error message
will pop-up. If a timeout error occurs, filter the results to include only the relevant dates and times,
which will reduce the file size. If a timeout error continues to pop-up after reducing the date timeframe,
contact Technical Support for other filter options and recommendations.
The Multi-Channel Online Monitor System must be powered off prior to connecting or disconnecting any
cables from the top or rear communication panels. Connecting or disconnecting cables with the power on
may cause software and/or communication errors with the Multi-Channel Online Monitor System and 2900
Series Analyzer.
