KICK START
Kick Start Disassembly / Inspection
The kick start spring is under tension. Wear face
protection during disassembly and assembly of the kick
start mechanism.
4. Mark the shaft at the opening of the kick start pedal , or
note position of kick start pedal before removing.
NOTE: It is not necessary to remove the kick start lever or
kick drive components to remove the engine cover.
1. Remove clutch cover and cover gasket. (Chapter 3)
2. Remove the kick pinion with drag spring attached by rotating
the kick start pedal.
5. Remove retaining ring and backing washer from the
shaft.
3. Disconnect hooked end of spring and set against stop.
6. Lift hooked end of spring over the stop and allow it to
unwind completely (about another 180 degrees).
7. Remove shaft with bushing , O-ring , and spring.
8. Inspect shaft, bushing, and spring for wear or damage.
Check shaft pivot boss for cracks.
