5 Adjustments
Introduction
This chapter describes adjustments and checks required to return the laser
head to peak operating capabilities when repairs have been made or
performance problems exist. Included in this chapter are the test
equipment required, equipment setups, and procedures to perform the
adjustments. The adjustments apply to all laser heads.
For all other laser heads, the type of A3 Controller/Reference Board
installed depends on the age of the laser head. To identify the type
installed in your laser head, refer to Figure 8 on page 27.
Safety Considerations
Maintenance des cribed he rein is pe rformed with power supp lied to
the equipment and with the protective covers removed. Such
maintenance should b e performed only by service-trained pe rsonnel
who are aware of t he hazards involved (for exam ple, fire and
electric shock). Where maintenance can be performed without
power applied, the power to the equipment should be removed.
Before any repair is completed, ensure that all safety features are
intact and functioning, and that all necessary parts are connected
to their protective grounding means.
From 1.2 kilovolt s to 12 kilovolt s DC is pre sent on the anod e of the
laser tube in the laser head. Exercise extreme caution when
working inside the instrument. The high voltage could cause
serious personal injury if con tacted. The followin g adjustment s
should be performed by service-trained personn el.
Always turn off, or disconnect, the laser head power s upplies
before connecting or disconnecting the laser head cable to or from
the laser head rear panel.
