1.2 How to Use this Document
This document is used for the installation and configuration of the product, as well as for
the administration and daily operation.
Installation and Basic Configuration
For installation and basic configuration, refer to chapters 2 and 4.
For the basic administration of UPAC, refer to chapters:
- 4.1 Add Users on page 12
- 4.2 Create Groups on page 13
- 4.3 Configure the Phonebook on page 14
Extended Configuration
Some extended configuration is included in the basic licence, other requires an additional
licence, see below:
For settings included in UPAC Basic - M1/L1 licence.
Refer to chapters:
- 4 Basic Configuration on page 12 (except 4.6.3 Add Locations)
- 5 Serial Interface on page 32

ESPA 4.4.4 A message-based serial protocol intended for communication with
external equipment. Built upon the ISO1745 transport specification.
LAN Local Area Network:
a group of computers and associated devices that share a common
communication line.
Ascom Line protocol A simple alternative to ESPA 4.4.4 with all basic features of paging
call available but with a very limited status report.
SNMP Simple Network Management Protocol:
standard for management of network equipment.
System 900 Generic term for telePROTECT900 and teleCOURIER 900.
System 9d Ascom DECT System
teleCARE M Nurse Call System, built on a local operated network (LON)
teleCOURIER 900 Ascom On Site Paging System
telePROTECT 900 Ascom Personal Security System
Unite Ascom messaging system that unites different systems, for example
System 900, System 9d, and teleCARE M.
