10.3.1. Reminders for imaging

Remember to fully raise the engage stage
before loading the cantilever holder.
• Compared to the S, on the ES scanner it
is more difficult to see if there is enough
clearance for safely loading the
cantilever holder.
• The stage needs to be high enough so
that when you mount the cantilever
holder it does not come in contact with
the sample.
• Rotate the ‘Engage Control Knob’ on the
Cypher clockwise and hold until the
engage stage is at its upper limit of
travel. Or, Hit the ‘(Un)/Load Sample
Button’ prior to mounting the cantilever
holder. The upper position is safe for all
samples other than those that are too
thick to be run in the ES.
Warning: Pay attention! Failure to check for
clearance may cause serious damage to your
cantilever holder and/or sample stage.
