Section 4 Electrical Connections
4.1 Detector
Switch evaluation unit off before connecting the scintillation
counter.
Open the screws and remove the connection box cover to expose
the connection area.
The detector is connected to terminals 1
and 2 on the evaluation unit via a 2-wire
(2 x 1 mm
2
) shielded standard cable with
6 mm diameter. This cross-section allows
a maximum length of 750 m. When in-
stalling the connection cable, you have to
make sure that water cannot get into the
connection room via the cable. With am-
bient temperatures >70°C, the installed
cable has to be protected to prevent ex-
ceeding of the temperature limits of the
cable. Following connection, check that
the connection room is carefully closed
and the cable bushing properly sealed.
With a rod detector, a 6 m longer cable
has to be connected to determine the
background.

For equipment installed in the Ex-area, please observe the
special requirements for the cable and the preparation of
the connection wires.
The detector LB 44... has to be used for installation in the
Ex-area.
The evaluation unit must always be installed outside the Ex-
area.
A special transmission technique ensures that interference will be
suppressed. Nevertheless, the cable should not be installed to-
gether with power cables.
