3.3 Installation of Water Cooling
The maximum operating temperature of a scintillation
counter is 50°C. A cooling system (which is available as extra)
must be used if the temperature at the detector is likely to be
higher, due to heat emission of the pipeline and/or higher ambient
temperatures.
The detectors LB 44.. permit later installation of this cooling
jacket. With the scintillation counters LB 5... the cooling jacket is
installed in such a manner that the connection studs are located on
the side of the connection box, so that they can simply be fixed
with the clamping device.
Installation on the scintillation counters is done in the same man-
ner. First, however, the lead shielding at the front has to be re-
moved, and also the distance ring. After sliding over the cooling
jacket, screw the lead shielding on again without distance ring.
The water must enter from below and exit at the top. Thus,
the cooling jacket is always filled with water, ensuring good ther-
mal insulation.
In case of higher ambient temperatures, the connection ca-
bles used have to be able to withstand these temperatures!
