4.2 Checking and adding operating materials
4.2.1 General
DANGER
Risk of fatal injury from fire and explosion due to highly
flammable operating materials!
Used operating materials and their fumes can form a combustible
mixture with air and cause severe or fatal injuries if ignited.
Combustion gases may result in poisoning or suffocation.
4 Never add operating materials while the engine is running.
4 Never operate the machine in an enclosed space.
4 Never add operating materials to the machine in an enclosed space.
4 Add operating materials using appropriate filling aids.
4 Do not smoke within or in the vicinity of the danger zone. The
handling of open lights, flames or any type of ignition source is
prohibited.
4 Take measures to prevent electrostatic charging.
4 Keep appropriate extinguishing agents (fire blanket, fire extinguisher
with CO
2
, powder or foam) at the ready.
4 In case of fire, stop working immediately. Leave the danger zone until
the all-clear is given and alert the fire brigade.
Personal protective
equipment
Wear the following personal protective equipment when checking and
adding operating materials:
– Chemical-resistant protective gloves
– Safety goggles

Before checking or adding operating materials, ensure that
