Shifting Out of P (Park)
Your vehicle has an electronic shift
lock release system. With the igni-
tion on, you have to fully apply the
regular brakes before you can shift
out of P (Park).
The shift lock control system is also
designed to prevent the shift lever
from moving out of P (Park) when
the ignition is in the OFF position.
If your vehicle is equipped with a
removable key, this system is
designed to prevent ignition key
removal when the shift lever is in
any position other than P (Park).
The shift lock control system may
not operate if your vehicle has a
dead or low-voltage battery.
If the vehicle's battery is dead,
jump start the vehicle. See "Jump
Starting" in Section 5.
If you cannot shift out of P (Park),
maintain brake application while
you do the following:
1. Release the button on the shift
lever.
2. Press the button on the shift
lever again.
3. Try to shift out of P (Park), into
the gear you want.
If the problem persists, see your
dealer for service.
You should not park vehicles with
trailers on a grade (hill). However,
if you must park on a grade, see
"Parking On Hills" under "Trailer
Towing" later in this section.

There are three systems that
control the vehicle: steering,
brakes, and accelerator. To keep
the vehicle under control, do not
push any of these systems beyond
their limits.
Traction Control
This system automatically limits
wheel spin under slippery road
conditions.

on the traction control system.
