accessory
housing. A
starter
solenoid
is
activated
by
the
ignition
key on
the
instrument
panel.
When the
solenoid
is
activated,
its
contacts
close
and

Disconnect
starter
power
cable
at
starter.
In-
sulate
terminal
on
power
cable
to
prevent
accidental
shorting.

Remove
cowling
as
required
for
access.
When
disconnecting
or
connecting
the
starter
cable1do
not
permit
starter
terminal
bolt
to
rotate.
Rotation
of
the
terminal
bolt
could
break
the
conductor
between
terminal
and
field
coils
causing
the
starter
motor
to
be
inoperative.
c.
Remove
three
Palnuts
and
three
hex
head
nuts
attaching
starter
adapter
to
crankcase
cover
studs.
d.
Cut
safety
wire
and
remove
two
bolts
threaded
through
crankcase
into
starter.
e. Tap
starter
gently
to
loosen
gasket
and
remove
starter
and
adapter
with
a
straight
rearward
move-
ment.
f.
Clean
any
gasket
which
may
be
stuck
to
starter,
starter
adapter,
or
crankcase
cover.
