1 Message display ....................... The message display shows the date, time, operation procedures and operational
errors.
2 Cursor keys ............................... Press the cursor keys to select a function or item while making settings.
3 Enter key ................................... Press the enter key to proceed to the next item or to store the data registered or set
for each function.
4 Interrupt key (indicator) .............Press the interrupt key to make copies while receiving faxes. When the machine
enters the interrupt copy mode, the indicator lights.
5 Numeric keys ............................ Use the numeric keys to enter a destination fax number. Numeric characters can be
transmitted as tone signals even if a pulse line is used. Press the
key after
connecting to the destination number: numeric characters pressed from then on will
be transmitted as tone signals.
6 Reset key ..................................Press the reset key to cancel an operation or return to the initial mode.
7 Stop/clear key ........................... Press the stop/clear key to return to the previous step in order to correct the entered
data.
8 Start key .................................... Press the start key to start fax communication.
9 COPY/FAX switching key/
COPY & FAX indicators ............ Press the COPY/FAX switching key to switch between the copy operation and fax
operation modes. When the copy indicator is lit, the machine is in the copy operation
mode; when the fax indicator is lit, the machine is in the fax operation mode.
0 Communication
error indicator ............................ The communication error indicator lights when a communication error occurs.
! Communicating indicator .......... The communicating indicator lights during communication.
@ Document in memory
indicator .................................... The document in memory indicator lights when data is saved in the memory to be
printed or to be transmitted at a programmed time.
# Memory Tx. indicator................. The memory Tx. indicator lights when the machine is in the memory transmission
mode.
$ Memory Tx. key ........................ Press the memory Tx. key to switch between the memory transmission and direct
feed transmission modes.
% On-hook key.............................. Press the on-hook key to make a call without lifting the telephone receiver.
^ On-hook indicator...................... The on-hook indicator lights when the machine is in the on-hook mode.
& TAD indicator ............................ The TAD indicator lights when the machine is in the TAD reception mode.

The manual Rx. indicator lights when the machine is in the manual reception mode.
( Pause/redial key........................ Press the pause/redial key in the direct feed transmission mode to redial the most
recently dialed number. Also, press the pause/redial key while entering a destination
number to insert a few seconds of pause in-between numbers.
) Abbr./directory key..................... Press the abbr./directory key when using the abbreviated dialing function or directory
function.
One-touch keys (1 to 32)........... Use the one-touch keys when transmitting documents by one-touch dialing or when
entering characters. Fax (telephone) numbers for group dialing, chain dialing and
program dialing can also be registered under the one-touch keys. When the cover
plate is closed, these keys are used as one-touch keys 1 to 20; when the cover plate
is open, these keys are used as one-touch keys 21 to 32.
¤ Resolution select key ................ Press the resolution select key to select the image quality of the transmitting
document.
Resolution indicators ................. The resolution indicators are, from the top down, the fine indicator, super fine
indicator, ultra fine indicator and half-tone indicator. Select a resolution mode and
thereby light an indicator by pressing the resolution select key. When all the
indicators are turned off, the normal mode is selected.
Contrast select keys.................. Press the contrast select keys to adjust the scanning density.
Contrast indicators ....................The contrast indicators light when the contrast select key is pressed to adjust the
scanning density. Usually, the middle indicator will be lit.
Machine Error indicator ............. When the machine error indicator is lit, a paper jam or a mechanical error has
occurred.
Configure key ............................ Press the confuigure key to configure settings related to facsimile use.
° Register key .............................. Press the register key to register information related to facsimile use.
