Note: The chemiluminescence reaction is between O
3
 and NO only; not NO
2
 or NH
3
.
Photons are emitted by the activated NO
2
*
.
This reaction releases energy in the form of chemiluminescent radiation, which is filtered by the
optical Bandpass filter and detected by the photomultiplier tube (PMT).
The level of chemiluminescence detected is directly proportionally to the NO in sample.
The second path is drawn through a delay loop and the NO
2
 to NO converter (NO
X
 path) such that
it reaches the reaction cell after the first path measurement period. At which point the NO
X

measurement (the combined concentration of NO and NO
2
) is taken.
  The concentration of NO
2
is calculated by subtracting the NO measurement from NO
X
measurement.
NO
X
 = NO + NO
2
  or NO
2
 = NO
X
 – NO
Equation 2 – NO
2
 Calculation
The third path is drawn through the external NH
3
 converter (N
X
 path) which converts NH
3
 into NO
and NO
2
. This passes through an internal NO
2
to NO converter to convert any NO
2
 into NO.
  The concentration of NH
3
is calculated by subtracting the NO
X
 measurement from N
X
measurement
