6.6.2 Compatibility with previous PROFIBUS model PROMASS 63
with Profile Version 2.0
Promass 63 with Profile Version 2.0 is the precursor to Promass 83. If Promass 63 is already being
operated in the system and if the device has to be replaced, Promass 83 can be used as a replacement
device without having to reconfigure the PROFIBUS DP network.
In the event of a device being replaced, Proline Promass 83 supports the compatibility of the cyclic
data with the previous Promass 63 model with Profile Versions 2.0 as follows:
• The output data are completely compatible.
• The measured variables target fluid flow, carrier fluid flow and calculated density are only
available if the additional “concentration measurement (F-Chip)” software is installed in
Promass 83.
If the additional software is not installed, the measured value status BAD, substatus 0x08
(measured value not available) is output for the corresponding measured variable via the
appropriate Analog Input function block.
The measuring devices can be exchanged as follows:
Promass 83 is accepted as the replacement device if the “MANUFACT V2.0” option is activated in
the “SELECTION GSD” parameter.
Promass 83 then automatically realises that a Promass 63 device was configured in the automation
system and makes suitable input and output data and measured value status information available
even though the devices differ in name and ID number. You do not have to adjust the configuration
of the PROFIBUS network in the automation system.
Procedure after replacing the measuring devices:
1. Set the same (old) device address → FIELDBUS ADDRESS (6101) fct.
2. In the SELECTION GSD (6140) function → Select MANUFACT V2.0
3. Restart the measuring device → SYSTEM RESET (8046) fct.

Note!
If necessary, the following settings have to be made via an operating program (class 2 master) after
exchanging the devices:
• Configuration of the application-specific parameters
• Configuration of the units for the process variables
