6.8 PROFIBUS PA cyclic data exchange
6.8.1 Block model
The block model illustrated shows which input and output data Promass 83 provides for cyclic data
exchange via PROFIBUS PA.

6.8.2 Modules for cyclic data exchange
AI module (Analog Input) - cyclic transmission of process variables
By means of the AI module, the measured variables of the measuring device can be read out
cyclically by the automation system (PROFIBUS master). Here, the cyclic transmission of measured
variables to the automation system is effected in data blocks of 5 bytes. The measured variable is
portrayed in the first four bytes in the form of floating point numbers in accordance with IEEE 754
standard. The fifth byte contains status information pertaining to the measured value which is
implemented in accordance with the PROFIBUS Profile Specification, Version 3.0.
