Calibration of the Crank Angle Sensor Ignition Timing
The ignition calibration on rotary engines is performed just like any other engine.
By entering this screen, the ECU locks the ignition timing to 20° by default.
Timing light will be used to read ignition timing marks in the damper and spark on Leading Rotor #1.
Put your timing light on and advance or retard timing on the calibration screen until the timing on damper
To check timing on the Trailing spark plug, switch timing light from spark plug. If your timing split is 10°, you
should read 10° BTDC on the damper.
10° BTDC and 20° BTDC Ignition Timing Marks
For timing lights without the advance/retard knob, select the 0° option on FT500.
TDC (0°) and 10°ATDC Ignition Timing Marks
After ignition timing calibration is performed your engine is ready for tuning. The default map should be a
starting point for properly tuned.
Always start the tuning with a rich map and conservative ignition timing. A lean engine with aggressive timing will lead to
serious engine damage. A rich engine with aggressive advanced timing could lead to serious engine damage also.
