Disinfectant to Use
In accordance with the APIC Guidelines for Selection and Use of
Disinfectants (1996), use sodium hypochlorite (5.2% household bleach) to
disinfect the cables and leadwires.
Sodium hypochlorite can be in the form of a liquid or a wipe as long as it
falls within the following range:
Minimum dilution of 1:500 (minimum of 100 ppm free chlorine)
Maximum dilution of 1:10
Cleaning Materials To Avoid
DO NOT use the following materials to clean the cables or leadwires:
Sani-Cloth® Wipes
Ascepti® Wipes
HB Quat®
Clorox® Wipes
Over-the-counter detergents (Fantastic®, Tilex®, etc.).
Conductive solutions
Solutions or products that contain any of the following:
Abrasive cleaners or solvents
Acetone
Alcohol-based cleaning agents
Ammonium Chloride
Betadine
Chlorides, wax, or wax compounds
Ketone
Sodium salts
Use of these materials or materials that contain similar active
ingredients and solutions could result in:
Product discoloration,
Metal part corrosion,
Brittle wires and connectors,
Reduced product life,
Unit malfunction, and
Void warranty.
Cautions
Observe the following cautions when cleaning cables and leadwires:
Never immerse cables or leadwires in any liquid.
Never pour or spray any liquid directly onto cables or leadwires
Never permit fluid to seep into connections or openings.
