4.01.11.1 Resolving Controller Errors & Alarms
NOTE: If an error condition cannot be resolved or continues to occur frequently, please contact a factory‐
authorized service company, or call 800.554.4537 for Giles Technical Support.
● DRAIN OPEN (Error Code OPEN) ‐ If the vat drain valve is open (even slightly) while fryer power is ON, an alarm
sounds, lower display shows “OPEn”, and upper display reads “ERROR ALARM ‐ DRAIN IS OPEN”. When
equipped, if a basket lift is down, it will be raised. Heating elements are disabled as long as the condition exists.
Press the [ALARM] key to silence alarm. To clear the error, confirm that the drain valve is tightly closed. When
error is cleared, alarm sounds again and the message “CHECK OIL LEVEL, ENSURE VAT IS FULL, IF FULL THEN
PRESS [START]” appears on upper display. This is a post‐error prompt alerting operator to confirm that oil level
in vat is at the [FULL] mark. Add oil if needed, then press the [START] key to return to PREHEAT.
● LOW OIL LEVEL
(Error Code 03) ‐ Alarm sounds, lower display shows “Er03”, and upper display reads “ERROR
ALARM ‐ CHECK OIL LEVEL ‐ ENSURE VAT IS FULL”. Heating elements are disabled until the condition is
corrected. The temperature differential between two sensors in the vat exceeds an acceptable value, indicating
low oil level. Low oil level greatly increases the possibility of fire! Press the [ALARM] key to silence alarm and
place Heat Switch in [OFF] position. Top off vat with fresh oil to the [FULL] mark ... doing so might clear the
error ... if not, allow oil to cool further until error is cleared.
● LOW OIL LEVEL Post‐error Warning
(Error Code 06) ‐ After clearing Error 03, a warning alarm occurs. The lower
display shows “Er06”, upper display reads “CHECK OIL LEVEL ‐ ENSURE VAT IS FULL ‐ PRESS [START]”. This
alarm alerts user to confirm that oil level is at the [FULL] level ... if it is, press [START] key to enter PREHEAT.
● MAX. ELEMENT TEMP
(Error Code 19) ‐ The heating element has exceeded a maximum allowed temperature.
The alarm sounds, lower display shows “Er19”, and upper display shows “ERROR ALARM ‐ MAX ELEMENT
TEMPERATURE”. Heating elements are automatically turned OFF. Elements must cool to an acceptable
temperature to clear the error. Typically, this error is caused by low oil level, exposing the heating element.
False alarms are possible when preheating cold
oil during initial startup of the day. Vigorously stirring oil during
preheat will usually prevent, or clear, a false alarm of this type.
● MAX. ELEMENT TEMP Post‐error Warning
(Error Code 07) ‐ After Error 19 is cleared, a warning alarm occurs.
The lower display shows “Er07”, and upper display reads “MAX ELEMENT TEMP ‐ PRESS [START]”. This alarm
alerts user that a maximum element temperature error has occurred and is now clear. Press [START] key to
enter PREHEAT. Heating elements will not turn ON until [START] is pressed.
