6.9.1 Performing a New Validation
1. If a new validation operation is required, press ENTER. This displays the
TOC standard last used to perform a validation.
2. The blinking asterisks on either side of the displayed value indicate that it
can be changed. Press ENTER to move to the prompt screen and ensure
the standard is connected to the calibration port.
3. Press ENTER. The solution taken from the calibration standard port is
analyzed. The value increases as the analysis progresses and a
countdown timer is displayed.
The validation continues until completed, after which it displays the normal
validation screen for ten seconds.
An alternate validation percentage screen is displayed following the mg/L
screen, as shown below.
6.10 Calibration Menu
6.10.1 Calibration Overview and Options
The analyzer supports primary calibration, manual calibration, automatic
calibration, and multi-point calibration.
Primary and Manual calibrations are identical in operation. A primary
calibration should be done after peristaltic tube or lamp replacement.
In this manual, TOC is expressed in
mg/L while CO
2
concentrations are
expressed in ppm.
The analyzer is calibrated by measuring and storing the CO
2
gas ppm
produced by at least two known TOC standards. A calibration set may be
represented by at least two points on a graph of ppm CO
2
versus a zero and a
span (mg/L TOC) so that a straight line interpolation and extrapolation may be
done between the points. The lower point is defined by the gas ppm x
1
produced when DI water is applied to the analyzer. This defines the point
