RoHS Parts
Background RoHS, Restriction of Hazardous Substances, in Electrical and Electronic
Equipment was adopted by the European Union and compliance is required by
July of 2014 for medical devices. This directive was created to limit the
component concentration of six hazardous substances found in electrical and
electronic equipment as they are harmful to the environment, mainly though the
pollution of landfills. These six substances are lead, mercury, cadmium,
hexavalent chromium, polybrominated biphenyls, and polybrominated
diphenyl.
Identification of
RoHS Circuit
Cards
Identification of RoHS circuit boards can be accomplished by several different
methods:
1. RoHS compliant boards will have a different part number than current
non RoHS boards.
2. RoHS compliant board serial numbers will be suffixed with the letter “G”
as an identifier.
RoHS compliant boards will typically appear different in appearance with use
of surface mount technology for integrated circuits. The boards may appear
less populated with components. The pictures listed below are provided to
identify the two versions of each part, as well as the location of the RoHS
compliant board’s part number and revision.

RoHS compliant machines will have a G at the end of the machine serial
number.
Caution: When repairing machines please ensure that only RoHS parts are
used in RoHS machines in order to stay RoHS compliant.
