5.10 Board Change Procedures
It is possible to change either the Main Controller Board or the Life Support Board
without turning the power off in the Control Cabinet and without shutting the
transmitter off. The critical requirement here is that the cables be removed and replaced
in the proper order. Be sure to read and understand the entire procedure before
proceeding.
5.10.1 Main Controller Board Hot-Swap

WARNING:
BE SURE TO USE AN ANTI-STATIC WRIST STRAP WHEN HANDLING PC BOARDS
OR IC’S TO PREVENT DAMAGE TO THE COMPONENTS.
a. Set dip switch S1-8 to ON (reset). This powers off the microprocessor.
b. Remove connectors from the back of the Main Controller board in the following
order then remove the PC Board. See Figure 5-12 for connector locations.
J9, J10, J11, J8, J5, J6, J4, J3, J2, J1
c. Remove EEPROM U3 from the old board and install it in the new board. This
will carry all configuration and calibration settings to the new board. If the
EEPROM needs to be replaced with a new one, then the following will have to be
done:
System Forward and Reflected power calibration
Control Cabinet Drive Power calibration
PA Cabinet Combiner Reject load calibration
Recall or redo the Transmitter Configuration screen information in the mainte-
nance menu of the GUI.
d. Install the replacement Main Controller board and set all dipswitches and jumpers
to the same position as the old board.
e. Reinstall connectors in reverse order and Set S1-8 to OFF. The transmitter will
momentarily go off while the Main Controller comes on.
f. Verify connectors are fully seated. Exciter will mute during restart.
g. Check and set the 5V reference. Adjust R52 to get 5.0Vdc at TP7 if necessary.
