Section 4 Theory of Operation
remain operational and the Controller will readjust the output power to eliminate signal
quality degradation. The Module Controller will still acknowledge the problem to the
Main Controller via the CAN bus, so the problem can be fixed at the next possible time.
The Module Controller stores data on the PA Module’s frequency response allowing the
controller to readjust the AGC reference voltage to maintain the same gain of the
module over all operating frequencies.
4.8.1.1 ON/OFF
The Module Controller will enable or disable the RF amplifier based on either:
• Main controller ON/OFF command
• Local enable/disable from Cabinet Controller
• Module fault condition
4.8.1.1.1 AGC Vs Number Of Working Pa Pallets
A velocity PID algorithm is used for the AGC closed loop system, which will
automatically compensate the changes of operational frequency, temperature and the
number of working RF pallets. During a pallet failure, the Module Controller lowers the
gain of that module proportionately so the remaining pallets are not over driven.
4.8.1.1.2 AGC Unlocked
An “AGC unlocked” failure corresponds to the inability of the Module Controller to
adjust the gain of the module at +46dB due to any kind of PA or Module Controller
failure (cannot close the AGC loop).
4.8.1.1.3 Gain vs. Temperature compensation
• Maintains the gain of the module consistent over the temperature range.
• Input information includes the Input power, output power and heatsink temperature.
• Two DAC outputs control the RF level.
