Section 1 Introduction

NOTE:
Exhaust ductwork typically requires a duct mounted exhaust blower to allow the
exhaust ducting system to work properly.
1.3 8-VSB Exciters
The exciter(s) and driver(s) are mounted on extender rails to provide ease of servicing
and adjustment. A second hot standby exciter/driver and drive chain switcher is
available as an option.
There are 2 exciters available for use wtih the DiamondCD series transmitters:
The CD-1A DTV Exciter - The Harris CD-1A, 8 VSB exciter can be used
with any ATSC DTV UHF or VHF transmitter. This exciter is described in a
separate instruction book. The CD1A digital exciter includes closed-loop
digital adaptive equalization. A serial diagnostic and monitoring port is also
provided.
The APEX DTV Exciter - The APEX is Harris’ next generation 8-VSB
exciter for use in UHF or VHF ATSC transmitters. It uses adaptive
equalization to compensate for linear and non-linear distortions in the
transmitter and filter systems. A serial diagnostic and monitoring port is also
provided. For more information regarding the APEX exciter refer to the
separate technical manual, 888-2491-001.
