General Cleaning/Disinfecting
Progressa™ Bed User Manual (171528 REV 1) 79
Disinfecting
When there is visible soilage and between patients, we recommend that you disinfect the unit with a
tuberculocidal disinfectant. (For customers in the US, the disinfectant should be registered with the
Environmental Protection Agency.)
Dilute the disinfectant according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
Cleaning Medical Fluid Spills
Fluid spills should be wiped up as soon as possible. Always unplug the unit from its power sources
before cleaning up major fluid spills. Some fluids used in the hospital environment, such as iodophor
and zinc oxide creams, can cause permanent stains.
Temporary stains can be removed by wiping vigorously with a lightly-dampened sponge or rag and an
approved cleaner/disinfectant solution.
Cleaning Blood and Excreta
If possible, wipe up excess blood and excreta when wet since the cleaning process is more difficult
after these substances dry. In the presence of visible blood or other body fluids, the use of an
intermediate-level (tuberculocidal) detergent/disinfectant is recommended.
Cleaning the Mattress and the Low Air Loss Coverlet
There are two types of Low Air Loss Coverlets for the Progressa™ Bed: wipe only and machine
washable. You can identify the coverlets by their color and material. The wipe only coverlet is the
same color and material as the mattress.
We recommend the Therapy, Prevention, and Pulmonary Surfaces be wiped down for cleaning. In
cases of heavy soil, the topper can be machine washed. We recommend the coverlet be cleaned
every 60 days for patients on the mattress longer than 60 days.
Clean a Surface
1. Unplug the bed from its power source.
2. Raise the head section of the mattress and push corners
of mattress towards the center of the bed until the white
knobs slide out of the slot to disconnect the mattress
hooks from the sleep deck.
3. Fold the mattress over itself and clean underneath.
4. Wipe down the surface and sleep deck with chlorine
bleach (50 ppm to 150 ppm) or mild detergent and warm
water followed by an approved intermediate level
disinfectant, such as CSI disinfectant cleaner.
2.5 oz of bleach per 10 gal of water is approximately
100 ppm of available chlorine.
5. Let the bleach or disinfectant remain in contact with the
surface as instructed in the manufacturer’s instructions.
6. Remove the bleach or disinfectant, and rinse with warm water.
7. Let the mattress and/or coverlet completely air dry.
8. Repeat steps 2 through 7 for the foot-end of the mattress.
9. Clean the top of the mattress per step 4 above.
