16) Wipe the vertical shaft and the taper of the pinion gear with
a shop towel and degreasing cleaning solvent.
17) Install the special tool on the end (primary driven gear
installation side) of the vertical shaft.
TOOL:
Vertical shaft holder 07LPB-ZV30200
18) Place a shop towel in the gear case as shown to protect it.
19) Apply gear oil to the threaded part and seat of the 12 mm
special flange nut.
20) Install the pinion gear on the vertical shaft.
Holding the vertical shaft with the special tool, tighten the
pinion gear nut to the specified torque.
TORQUE: 75 N

• Check that the forward bevel gear/bearing assembly is set
in the gear case properly before installing the pinion gear.
21) Install the following parts.
- Water pump/shift rod (P. 11-24)
- Propeller shaft holder assembly (P. 11-7)
- Gear case assembly (P. 11-5)
- Propeller (P. 11-2)
14) Install the rubber set plate and the water bottom tube on
the gear case assembly.
15) Install the vertical shaft assembly in the gear case
assembly.
