PISTON
The piston is mode fro m material cor r espond ing
'o J IS AC8B aluminum costing. Th is material is light

su i table for high speed, in addition to having

od heat conducting prop e rt y to dissipate the h eat ·
r ap i dly . Furthermore, the coefficien t of heat expansion
is sm all t hus minimizing the warpage at elevated tem-
peratu re and permitting a- small pi ston to cylinder
cl e ar ance desig n. The shop~ of the pist on is on
e lli pti cal toper. The head · of the pist on, compa red
o the ski rt, is ex pos ed to higher temperature and
since the expansion is greater , it is toperingly smaller
ow ord the to p. The tapering of the piston also
ends
to lessen the p.iston slop when the throttle is
li ght ly snapp ed without the engine being lo aded .
