be performed on the engine with a timing light.
When checking a removed unit, spread the
counterweig hts apart wi th the fingers and if the
weights return to the normal po s iti on smooth ly
when released, the advancer is ope ra ting satis-
factorily. (F ig. 5 -1 5)

5.5 BATTERY
1. C O NST RUC TIO N
The battery stores the electric i ty pr oduced by the
generator for use as a source of power for the
safety it ems such as the turn signal lamps. At present,
all battery used for small type vehicles are of a lead
storage type incl osed in a plastic case. T he
construction and the name of the component parts
are shown in Fig 5.17 (F ig . 5 -1 6, 5- 17)
