CONTACT POINTS
Inspect
the
surfaces o f he
contac
t points;
if
the
y
are
burnt
or
pitted,
dress
the
surf
ace
with
an
oilstone
or
a
point
dressing file so
th
at
the
center
of
the
points
are
making
contact.

the
points
have
been
dressed, wash in
gasoline
or
trichloroethylene
to
re
m
ov
e
all
trace
of
oil.

breaker
point
gap

The
sp
ark
tends
to
linger,
that
is
the
interruption
of
the
primary
circuit
is
not
completed
at
the
points,
therefore,
the
secondary
high
voltage
build
-up is
reduced
.

points

longer,

heat
and
resulting in
damage.

breaker
point
gap

duration

points

short

allow

sufficient
current

the

-up in
the

ndary
or
the
high
te
nsion
vo
ltag
e ci
rc
uit. This
condition
will cause
poor
engine
st
arting,
spark missing
at
high
speed
and
a consequent loss
of
pow
er.

SPARK
PLUG ADJUSTMENT
A

or

the
spark plugs should
be
inspected
pe

and
clea
ning
and
adjustments made. Spark
plugs
with
sooty,
wet
el
ectrodes

with
depos
it

ill
permit the high t ension
vo
l
tage
to
bypass
the
gap
without
sparking.
