Probable
cause:
Poor
contact
at the
battery
terminal
due
to
looseness
or
corrosion.
Cor-
rective
ac
ti
on
: Inspect the
terminal
and
if
loose,
tighten
and
apply
a
coat
of
grease;
if
corroded,
remove
the
battery,
pour
hot
water
on
the
terminal to
disconnect
and
then clean
before
reconnecting
the
lead
wire,
and
then
apply
a.
coat
of
grea
se
to
prev
ent
corrosion
. Check
the
EB
terminal
particularl
y.

When
the st
arter
switch
button
is making
poor
cont
act, disassemble the switch
and
clean.
If the
tr
o
uble
is
not
due
to
the causes
above,
take
it
to a specialist. In most cases, the cause
is
due
to
worn
brushes
or
dirty
commutator
. A brush
worn
to
less than 1/ 3 should
be
rep
l
aced
with
a
genuine
part
. W hen
dir
ty commut
ator
is the cause,
polish
with
a fine
sandpaper
and
clean
the
carbon
from
the mica
insulator
as shown in Fig.
5.4
(Fig. 5- 4)

Connect
one
lead
of
the
starter
magnetic switch
to
the
EB
t
er
minal
of
the
battery
and
the
ot
h
er
lead
to
the
ground
and
if
an
energizing
click
sound is
not
heard
:
( l I The plunger
coil
is
defective
due
to
a
broken
wire,
therefore
,
replace
the
coil.
However,
if an
energ
izing click
is
heard
in the
starter
relay,
the
defect
is
a
poor
contact
in the
starter
sw
itch but
ton
or
the
con
tact
plate
within
the magn
et
ic switch,
therefore,
disassemble the
part
and
clean the
contact
areas
