3. INSTRUCTION ON US E AND SERVICING
( 11 High Charging Rote Out put Tap
fh e dynamo on this motorcy cle is provided wi th a
high
charging rate output tap . Connectors are
installed on the lea ds of bot h the normal and high
c
harge rate taps to simp lify making the change.
When riding constan tly at a speed of 20 to
25 km/h 112 . 5-15 m/ hl use the high c harg e rate
tap to maintain the batte ry in proper c harge .
121 Check speci f1c grav it y
Before us ing the battery, check the capaci ty and
if the specif1c grav it y of the electrolyte is below
1,220 at 20°C 16 8° Fl (le ss than 7 5% capacity) ,
the
bat t ery shou ld be rec harged.
(Caution)
The relation between the battery capac it y and
the specif1c
gravity (residual capaci ty) is s hown
in Fig 5.18. When the specif1c gravity is 1.189
at 20°C 168°Fl lless than 50 % capac it y) the
re s idual capacity is small and if continued to be
used in such a condition, it will eventually lead
to tr o uble as well as shorte ning the battery life ,
therefore, the battery sho uld be recharged as
soon as possi
ble (Fig. 5-18)
131 Inspecting the elect rol yte level. As s ho wn in Fi g
5.19,
if the electrol yte le vel falls below the
LOWER LEVEL, remove the f11 1 er c op with a
screw driv er or an app ropr iat e tool and f1 11 the
battery to the UPPER LEVEL wi th distilled wate r
or f11tered wate r. Do not f11 1 beyo nd the UPPER
LEVEL. (Fig. 5-19)

be reconnected to the lead for the normal
charging rate.
Procedure for changing ra t es
Remove the front cover and locate the fa ndem oute r
co rd connector lo c ated between the wire harn ess ana t
the dynamo leads. The wire s to the co nn ectors are
colo red green and pink. For normal c har ging rate , the
gree n cord of the wi re harness is co nnected to the
green lead from the dynamo. For high c harging ra e
the
green cord is co nnected to the pink le ad.
The co nnecti on should be made to the high charg in_
rate term in al to extend the life of the battery, uncle-
the follow i ng conditions :
