For 550 and 565,
the
fuel
from
the tonk enters
fuel passage
@, passes
by
valve
seat @,
float
valve

and enters
float
chamber @. As
the
fuel fill
the
flo
at
chamber, the
float
@ rises and
forces
the
float
v
alv
e against
the
valve
seat
with
the
float
arm @
o shut
off
the fuel
flow
into
the
float
chamber. As
the fuel
in
the
float
chamber is consumed and the
fuel level drops,
the
float
also
lowers
with
the fuel
level and
allows
the
float
valve
to
unseat
from
the
va
lv
e seat, permi
tting
the
fuel
to
enter
the
float
chamber. This
cycle
is
repeated
to
maintain a
con
-
st
ant fuel
level.
A spring is
incorporated
in
the
float
valve

contact,
for
the
purpose
of
absorb
ing
the
shock and
pre
venting wear
to
the
va
lve
and seat caused
by
the
fluctuation
of
the flo
at
wh
en
driving
over
rough
road
and
in
addition
,
it

rves

maintain a constant full
le
vel
in
the
float
chamber.
Ov
er
flow
pipe
If
any
foreign
object
shou
ld
get
stuck
in
between
he
float
valve
and seat and causes the fuel
to
over-
flow
out
of
the
sl
ow
jet
or the
needle
jet, the fuel
will
enter the engine and dilutes the
oil.
To
prevent
suc
h an
occurance,
an
overflow
pipe
@
is
in
cor-
po
rated
into
the
fl
oa
t chamber @. The
outlet
of
the
ov
erflow
pipe
@ is high
er
than the normal fuel l
eve
l
and
therefo
re,
has
no
effect,
but
under
overflow
con
dition,
the fuel
level
rises and
the
overflow
fuel
is
drained
o
ui
s
ide.
