Fail
One or more values fail by a margin of failure greater than the unit’s
specified accuracy.

Fail*
One or more values fail, but the margin of failure is smaller than the unit’s
specified accuracy for the measurement.
The fail* result fails the cable and must be cleared up, just like a standard
fail. However, fail* means it has failed by a small margin and minor
adjustments in the installation may correct the error.
The effect of pass*/fail* reporting of individual test results is to provide a built-in
margin of safety above and below the advertised accuracy for a measurement.
Measurements which fall outside this guard band are a clear pass or a clear fail,
and the probability of the tester being in error is extremely small.
Note: If you do not want to see marginal test results, deactivate the setting in the
Preferences menu, AUTOTEST sub-menu details.
