9 Remove seal 10 and back-up gasket 11 from wear
plate.
10 Remove shaft seal 14 and washer 15 from front plate
with a blunt punch from the back side.
11 It is not necessary to remove the plug in the front
plate.
Inspection
1 Clean and dry all parts.
2 Remove nicks and burrs from all parts with emery
cloth.
3 Oil groove in bushes in front plate should be in line
with dowel pin holes and 180º apart. The oil grooves
in the back plate bushes should be at approximately
37º to the pressure side.
4 Replace the back plate or front plate if inside diameter
of bushes exceeds 19.2 mm (0.755 in). (Bushes are
not available as separate items).
5 Bushes in front plate should be at 3.20 mm (0.126 in)
above surface of front plate.
6 Check for scoring on face of back plate. Replace if
wear exceeds 0.038 mm (0.0015 in.).
7 Check gear pockets inside body for excessive scoring
or wear. Replace body if internal diameter of gear
pockets exceeds 43.7 mm (1.719 in).
8 Check drive shaft spline for twisted or broken teeth.
9 Inspect both drive gear and idler gear shafts at bush
points and seal area for rough surfaces and
excessive wear.
10 Replace gear assembly if shaft measures less than
19 mm (0.748 in) in bush area. (Shafts and gears are
available as an assembly only.)
11 Inspect gears for scoring and excessive wear.
12 Replace complete gear assembly if gear width A is
less than 12.95 mm (0.510 in).
13 Ensure that snap rings are in grooves on either side
of drive and idler gears.
14 If edge of gear teeth are sharp, break edge with
emery cloth.
Assembly
1 During assembly replace the wear plate 9, seal 10,
back-up gasket 11, shaft seal 14 and ‘O’ rings 6 and
12 with new parts.
2 Install ‘O’ ring 12 in groove of front plate.
3 Apply a thin coat of petroleum jelly or hydraulic oil to
both milled gear pockets of body 4. Place body onto
front plate 3 with half moon port cavities in body
facing away from front plate.
Note: The small half moon port cavity must be on the
pressure side (the plugged side of the front plate) of pump.
4 Install new seal 10 and new backup gasket 11 into
wear plate 9. In the middle of the backup gasket is a
flat section or support. This area must face away from
the wear plate inside the seal.
5 Place new wear plate, seal, and backup gasket into
gear pocket with seal and backup gasket next to front
plate. The side of the wear plate with the mid section
cut-away must be on the suction side of pump.
6 Dip gear assemblies 7 and 8 into oil and fit into front
plate bushings and gears into pockets of body.
7 Install new ‘O’ ring 6 in groove of back plate 5.
8 Make sure port orientation is correct and then slide
back plate over gear shafts until dowel pins are
engaged.
9 Secure with cap screws 1 and new washers 2.
Tighten cap screws evenly in a crisscross pattern 34
to 38 Nm (25 to 28 lbf ft) torque.
10 Place washer 15 over drive shaft into housing.
Liberally oil shaft seal 14 and install over drive shaft,
carefully so that rubber sealing lips are not cut.
11 Using a suitable sleeve over the shaft, press in shaft
seal 14
until flush with front surface of front plate.
