ush with the rack and sll be adjustable for racks with dierent depths.
The front and rear rack rails must be spaced between 28 in. (71.1 cm) and 32 in. (81.2 cm) front to back.
Before You Begin Rack Mounng
Before you begin mounng a QFX5240 switch in the rack:
1. Ensure that you understand how to prevent electrostac discharge (ESD) damage..
2. Verify that the site meets the requirements described in "QFX5240 Site Preparaon Checklist" on
page 38.
3. Place the rack in its permanent locaon, allowing adequate clearance for airow and maintenance,
and secure it to the building structure.
4. Read
Chassis and Component Liing Guidelines
.
5. Remove the switch from the shipping carton.
6. In addion to the items in Table 25 on page 70, ensure that you have the following parts and tools
available that are not normally provided with the device to mount the switch in a rack:
ESD grounding strap
Appropriate screwdriver for the mounng screws
Management host, such as a PC laptop, with a serial port
Grounding lug, grounding wire, screws, and washers
Dust covers for unused ports
CAUTION: A QFX5240 requires two people for installaon, one person to li the
device into place and another person to aach the device to the rack. If you are
installing the QFX5240 above 60 in. (152.4 cm) from the oor, we recommend that you
remove the power supplies and fan modules to minimize the weight before aempng
to install the device.
CAUTION: If you are mounng mulple devices on a rack, mount the heaviest device in
the lowest posion of the rack rst. Proceed to mount the rest of the devices from the
boom to the top of the rack to minimize the risk of the rack toppling.
