10 PERIODICAL INSPECTIONS ACCORDING TO EN 81-1 ANNEX E
According to EN 81-1 Annex E, the elevator must be periodically inspected to verify it is in
good condition. Inspection interval and contents should be according to local regulations.
KONE recommends to test once every two years. In addition to the local authorized inspector,
it is recommended that a representative of the qualified maintenance company is available
during inspection.
If any of the tests in this document are part of the local periodical inspection procedure, follow
the instructions described in this document: All periodical examinations and tests must be
carried out in accordance with EN 81-1 Annex E.
Periodical examinations and tests are not more stringent than those required before the
elevator was put into service for the first time.
NOTE! The periodical tests should not, through their repetition, cause excessive wear or
impose stresses likely to reduce the safety of the elevator. This is the case in particular of
the test on components such as the safety gear and the buffers. If tests on these
components are made, they must be carried out with empty car and at a reduced speed.
The person appointed to make the periodical test must assure that these components,
which do not operate in normal service, are still in an operating condition.
WARNING! If any of the periodical test fails, the elevator must not be put into normal use
before it has been repaired and it has passed all the tests.
NOTE! If the elevator is equipped with
safety space arrangement SSA**E
devices, read Appendices A – C before
inspecting the elevator.
