APPENDIX A.SAFETY SPACE ARRANGEMENT (SSA**E)
This section describes the SSA**E devices.
NOTE! In addition to the described SSA**E instructions, all safety measures for normal
elevator maintenance must be implemented and local safety regulations followed.
A.1 SSA**E (option)
SSA**E devices are used in elevators where the space in the headroom differs from the
minimum required by EN 81-1. SSA**E ensures a temporary safe working space for
personnel installing, maintaining or inspecting the elevator. SSA**E complies with the
requirements of EN 81-21. The safety space is ensured with hinged safety buffers on the car
roof and shaft access monitoring (SAM).
Correct safety procedures must be followed when working on the car roof or in the pit of such
elevators.
– Maintenance; Due to final inspection drive limits
, it is possible to maintain the landing door
of the lowest floor only by using ladders.
– Inspection; It is not possible to test the opening of the lo
west and topmost landing doors
by using the inspection drive. The opening of the lowest and topmost landing doors have
to be tested in normal use or manually.
– Rescuing trapped passengers; If shaft access monitoring has activate
d and is stopping
the elevator movement, reset it. Follow the general elevator type dependent rescue
instruction. See also section A.4 Working with elevator with SSA**E.
