Thecapsulewillcauseamicro-traumatotheesophagealwallduringthexingprocess.Healthcare
professionals must carry out operations in strict accordance with this manual to avoid other traumas.
CAUTION
•
Do not use the pH capsule if the sterilization bag in which it is shipped has been opened, damaged, or
compromised in any way. Before replacing the compromised capsule with a new one, be sure place the
oldcapsulebackinitspackageproperlyandverifythatthebreakerisinplaceandtheLEDindicator
isoff.
•
Priortocommencingtheexamination,conrmthatthevacuumpumpisoperatingproperly.Afaulty
vacuum pump can cause the examination to fail.
1. Attachthecapsuletotheesophagus5cmabovetheproximalborderoftheloweresophagealsphincter(LES),
asidentiedbymanometry,or6cmabovethesquamocolumnarjunction(SCJ),asidentiedbyendoscopy.
Measurethedistancetothedesiredlocationbymanometryorendoscopeandthenmarkthatlengthonthe
delivery system using adhesive tape, as illustrated in Figure2-10.

2. Lubricate the tip and insert the delivery system through the mouth (with the capsule facing the tongue) to the
designatedlocationusingthethetapemarkerasaguide,asillustratedinFigure2-11.

CAUTION
•
Do not cover the capsule with lubricant, as this can interfere with the performance of the capsule.
•
Do not move the delivery system when the capsule arrives at the designated location.
 WARNING
Carefully and slowly insert the delivery system. Be careful to avoid inserting it into the trachea or lungs.
