Chapter 4 TheAnalysisModule 47
The symptom analysis is done on the selected pH analysis channel (see the section “pHAnalysisSettings” on
page 60), combined with the symptom events in the diary.
TherstpartoftheanalysisshowsthepHsymptomanalysisresults.
The calculated parameters include the number of symptoms analysed, the number of symptoms that are related to
acidreux,thesymptomindexforreux(SI),andthesymptomsensitivityindex(SSI).ThepHdataandthesymptom
periods from the diary are analyzed to see whether there is a possible relation, indicated by the plus (+) sign.
ThepHsymptomanalysisresultscanalsobebasedonpHreuxmarkersInthepHanalysissettings(seethesection
“pHAnalysisSettings” on page 60);youmustthusselecttheEnablepHreuxmarkers option in the Symptom
analysis result selectiondialogbox.After(automatic)insertionofpHreuxmarkersonthepHchannel(s),the

Symptom index for reux (SI)
Thisshowsthepercentageofreux-relatedsymptomperiods.TheSIispositiveifitis>50%.
Symptom sensitivity index (SSI)
Thisisthepercentageofsymptom-relatedreuxperiods.

Symptom association probability (SAP)
Thisindicatestheprobabilitythatreuxepisodesandsymptomperiodsarerelated.
TheSAPissignicantifit
is>95%.
The pH recording is divided into consecutive two-minute periods. These periods and the two- minute periods
precedingtheonsetofsymptomsareevaluatedfortheoccurrenceofreux.Atwo-minuteperiodwasconsidered

thesymptomarecheckedforpresenceofreuxandclassiedasreux-positiveorreux-negative.Subsequently,a
contingency table containing the results is constructed and reported in the results.
Theuser-denableeventscanalsobetreatedassymptoms(liketheSymptomevent)andbeincludedintheSAP
analysis. To set the analysis type of an event as a symptom, see the section “ConguringtheDiary” on page 64.
Investigation Information
On the menu bar, choose Results > Investigation info to display an overview of patient data, investigation information,
and channel information.
Investigation Memo
On the menu bar, choose Results > Investigation memo to display the memo-editor. Here, the healthcare professional
who performed the study can describe important facts about the procedure.
You can include the investigation memo in the investigation report. For information on how to customize a report,
refer to the separate Reporter manual, in PDF format, which you can open via the Manuals menu in the Database
module.
Youcanalsoright-clickthestudyintheinvestigationlistandthen,onthecontextmenuthatopens,select
investigation memo. This function is the same as the Database module.
