Usingtheintegratedmanagementmodule
Theintegratedmanagementmodule(IMM)isasecondgenerationofthefunctionsthatwereformerly
providedbythebaseboardmanagementcontrollerhardware.Itcombinesserviceprocessorfunctions,video
controller,andremotepresencefunctioninasinglechip.
TheIMMsupportsthefollowingbasicsystems-managementfeatures:
•ActiveEnergyManager.
•Alerts(in-bandandout-of-bandalerting,PETtraps-IPMIstyle,SNMP,e-mail).
•AutoBootFailureRecovery(ABR).
•Automaticmicroprocessordisableonfailureandrestartinatwo-microprocessorconfigurationwhenone
microprocessorsignalsaninternalerror.Whenoneofthemicroprocessorsfail,theserverwilldisablethe
failingmicroprocessorandrestartwiththeothermicroprocessor.
•AutomaticServerRestart(ASR)whenPOSTisnotcompleteortheoperatingsystemhangsandthe
operatingsystemwatchdogtimertimes-out.TheIMMmightbeconfiguredtowatchfortheoperating
systemwatchdogtimerandrebootthesystemafteratimeout,iftheASRfeatureisenabled.Otherwise,
theIMMallowstheadministratortogenerateanonmaskableinterrupt(NMI)bypressinganNMIbuttonon
thelightpathdiagnosticspanelforanoperating-systemmemorydump.ASRissupportedbyIPMI.
•Avirtualmediakey,whichenablesremotepresencesupport(remotevideo,remotekeyboard/mouse,
andremotestorage).
•Bootsequencemanipulation.
•Command-lineinterface.
•Configurationsaveandrestore.
•DIMMerrorassistance.TheUnifiedExtensibleFirmwareInterface(UEFI)disablesafailingDIMMthatis
detectedduringPOST,andtheIMMlightstheassociatedsystemerrorLEDandthefailingDIMMerrorLED.
