Important:Tohelpensurethatthedevicesthatyouinstallworkcorrectlyanddonotintroduceproblems,
observethefollowingprecautions:
1.Makesurethattheserverandtheinstalledfirmwarelevelssupportthedevicesthatyouareinstalling.If
necessary,updatetheUEFIandIMMfirmwareandanyotherfirmwarethatisstoredonthesystemboard.

3.Beforeyouinstalloptionalhardwaredevices,makesurethattheserverisworkingcorrectly.Startthe
serverandmakesurethattheoperatingsystemstarts,ifanoperatingsystemisinstalled,orthata
19990305errorcodeisdisplayed,indicatingthatanoperatingsystemwasnotfoundbuttheserver
isotherwiseworkingcorrectly.Iftheserverisnotworkingcorrectly,see“RunningtheDSAPreboot

forinformationabouthowtorundiagnostics.
4.Followtheinstallationproceduresinthischapterandusethecorrecttools.Incorrectlyinstalleddevices
cancausesystemfailurebecauseofdamagedpinsinsocketsorconnectors,loosecabling,orloose
components.

1.Afteryouhaveconfirmedthattheserverstartscorrectlyandrecognizesthenewlyinstalleddevicesand
thatnoerrorLEDsarelit,runtheDynamicSystemAnalysis(DSA)stresstest.Forinformationabout
usingDSA,see“DynamicSystemAnalysis”onpage135.
2.Shutdownandrestarttheservermultipletimestoensurethattheserveriscorrectlyconfiguredand
functionscorrectlywiththenewlyinstalleddevices.
3.SavetheDSAlogasafileandsendittoLenovo.Forinformationabouttransferringdataandlogs,see
“HowtosendDSAdata”onpage24.
4.Toshiptheserver,repackageitintheoriginalundamagedpackingmaterialandobserveLenovo
proceduresforshipping.
