Step1.Readthesafetyinformationthatbeginson“Safety”onpagevand“Installationguidelines”
onpage31.
Step2.Turnofftheserverandperipheraldevicesanddisconnectallpowercords.
Step3.Removethecover(see“Removingthecover”onpage189).
Step4.Removetheairbaffle(see“Removingtheairbaffle”onpage191).
Step5.Locatethemicroprocessortoberemoved(see“System-boardinternalconnectors”onpage26).
Step6.Removetheheatsink.
Attention:Donottouchthethermalmaterialonthebottomoftheheatsink.Touchingthethermal
materialwillcontaminateit.Ifthethermalmaterialonthemicroprocessororheatsinkbecomes
contaminated,youmustwipeoffthecontaminatedthermalmaterialonthemicroprocessororheat
sinkwiththealcoholwipesandreapplycleanthermalgreasetotheheatsink.
a.Opentheheatsinkretentionmodulereleaselevertothefullyopenposition.
b.Lifttheheatsinkoutoftheserver.Afterremoval,placetheheatsink(withthethermalgrease
sideup)onaclean,flatsurface.
