ClickthePowerschemetab,andthenselectMaximumPerformancefromthepredenedpower
schemes.
Problem:WhenIturnonthemachine,nothingappearsonthescreenandthemachinedoesnotbeep
whilestartingup.
Note:Ifyouarenotsurewhetheryouheardanybeeps,turnoffthecomputerbypressingandholding
thepowerswitchfor4secondsormore.Turnitonandlistenagain.
Solution:Makesurethat:
Thebatteryisinstalledcorrectly.
Theacpoweradapterisconnectedtothecomputerandthepowercordispluggedintoaworking
electricaloutlet.
Thecomputeristurnedon.(Turnthepowerswitchonagainforconrmation.)
Ifapower-onpasswordisset:
Pressanykeytodisplaythepromptforthepower-onpassword.Ifthebrightnesslevelofthescreenis
low,increaseitbypressingtheFn+Home.
TypethecorrectpasswordandpressEnter(refertoPower-onpassword).
Iftheseitemsareproperlyset,andthescreenremainsblank,havethecomputerserviced.
Problem:WhenIturnonthemachine,onlyawhitecursorappearsonablankscreen.
Solution:Ifyouhavemodiedapartitiononyourharddiskdrivebyusingapartitionsoftware,information
aboutthatpartition,orthemasterbootrecordmayhavebeendestroyed.
1.Turnoffthecomputer,andthenturnitonagain.
2.Ifyoustillseeonlythecursoronthescreen,dothefollowing:
Ifyouhaveusedthepartitionsoftware,examinethepartitionontheharddiskdrivebyusingthe
software,andrecoverthepartitionifrequired.
UseeithertheRescueandRecoverworkspaceortherecoverydiscstorestorethesystemtothe
factorystate.Fordetailsaboutrestoringthesystemtothefactorystate,see“Performingbackup
andrecoveryoperations”onpage83.
Iftheproblempersists,havethecomputerserviced.
Problem:Myscreengoesblankwhilethecomputerison.
Solution:Yourscreensaverorpowermanagementmaybeenabled.Doeitherofthefollowing:
MovetheTrackPointorthetouchpad,orpressakeytoexitthescreensaver.
Pressthepowerswitchtoresumefromsleep(standby)orhibernation.
Memoryproblems
Printtheseinstructionsnowandkeepitwithyourcomputerforreferencelater.
Ifyourmemoryisnotoperatingproperly,checkthefollowingitems:
1.Verifythatthememoryisinstalledandseatedcorrectlyinyourcomputer.
Itmaybenecessarytoremovealladdedmemoriestotestthecomputerwithonlythefactory-installed
memories,andthenreinstallthememoryoneatatimetoensureaproperconnection.Forthe
procedurestoremoveandreinstallamemory,referto“Replacingthememory”onpage91.
2.Checkforerrormessagesduringstartup.
